하나님께서는 시내산에서 모세를 부르시사 그를 통하여 애굽에 있는 이스라엘 백성들을 건져내신 후 그들이 시내산에서 '나를 섬기리라'고 말씀하셨는데(출 3:1-12) 건짐을 받은 이스라엘 백성들은 모세가 시내산에 올라가 있는 동안 금송아지를 만들어 놓고 경배를 했습니다(32:4).
하나님을 섬겨야 할 하나님의 백성들이 애굽 고센 땅에서 번식력이 강한 황소를 다산과 풍요를 주는 신으로 섬겼던 것처럼(인터넷) 시내산 밑에서도 금송아지를 만들어서 우상 숭배를 한 것입니다.
