하나님은 우리 인생에 "박넝쿨"을 예비하시사 우리의 괴로움을 면하게 하시므로 우리가 크게 기뻐하게 하십니다. 그러시다가 하나님께서는 "벌레"을 예비하시사 우리가 크게 기뻐하는 것을 갉아 먹게도 하십니다. 그러신 후 하나님께서는 "뜨거운 동풍"을 예비하시사 우리로 하여금 혼미케 하시고 심지어 우리 스스로 죽기를 구하게 만드실 정도까지 가게 두십니다.
왜 하나님은 우리에게 이러시는 것일까요? 하나님의 뜻은 무엇일까요? 어쩌면 하나님의 뜻은 우리가 크게 기뻐하고 매우 아끼는 것을 가지고 가시므로 우리에게 하나님께서 아끼시는 것이 무엇인지를 가르쳐 주시고자 하시는 것일 수도 있습니다(요나 4:6-11).
