블레셋 왕 아비멜렉은 이삭이 자기 아내 리브가를 껴안은 것을 창문으로 보고 "그녀가 분명히 당신의 아내인데도 어째서 당신은 그녀를 누이동생이라고 하였소? ... 당신은 어째서 우리에게 이런 짓을 하였소? 하마터면 내 백성 중 하나가 당신 아내를 가까이하여 당신 때문에 우리가 죄를 지을 뻔하였소'라고 말하여 하나님께 죄를 범하지 않은 반면에(창26:8-10)
다윗 왕은 저녁 때에 자신의 침상에서 일어나 왕궁 옥상에서 거닐다가 충실한 군인 우리아의 아내인 밧세바가 목욕하는 광경을 보고 심히 아름다워 보이는 그 여인과 동침하고 자신의 죄를 덮으려고 그녀의 남편인 우리아까지 죽이므로 하나님 보시기에 악한 죄를 범하였습니다(삼하11장).
