The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. 고난과 영광
지난 주 화요일 노회 고시부 모임에 갔다가 영어사역 목사님 한 분을 통해 요즘 영어사역 젊은 목사님들이 고난(suffering)을 당하지 않으려고 한다는 말을 들었습니다. 그런데 지난 주 수요 예배 때 저희 교회 원로 목사님을 통해 로마서
8장 29절 말씀 중심으로 “하나님이 미리 아신 자들”
즉, 하나님께서 창세 전에 사랑하신 우리를 “미리 정하셨”는데(창세 전에 선택/예정하셨는데) 그 목적은 “그 아들의 형상을 본받게 하시 위하여”이며 여기서 하나님의 아들이신 예수님을 본받는다는 것은 이 지상에서는 “고난”(suffering)을 당하는 것이라는 말씀이었습니다. 물론 지금 예수님은 이 지상에 계시지 않고 저 천상에 계시기에 우리가 장차 본받을 예수님의 형상은 바로 “영광”(glory)이지만 이 지상에서 예수님은 “그가 (하나님의)
아들이시면서도 받으신 고난으로 순종함을 배”우셨던 것처럼(히브리서 5:8) 우리도 예수님을 본받아 “몸소 여러 가지 고난을 통해 순종을 배워”야 한다(8절, 현대인의 성경)는 교훈을 받습니다. “생각하건대 현재의 고난은 장차 우리에게 나타날 영광과 비교할 수 없도다”(로마서 8:18).
