모세와 아론은 물이 없으므로 다투는 이스라엘 백성에게 "반역한(rebels) 너희여 들으라 ..."고 말했습니다(민 20:2-3, 10절). 그런데 하나님께서는 모세와 아론에게 "... 이는 너희가 므리바 물에서 내 말을 거역한(rebelled) 까닭이니라"고 말씀하셨습니다(24절).
나단 선지자가 다윗에게 한 성읍에 양과 소가 심히 많은 부한 사람이 자기에게 온 행인을 위하여 자기의 양과 소를 아껴 잡지 아니하고 아무것도 없고 자기가 사서 기르는 작은 암양 새끼 한 마리 밖에 없는 가난한 사람의 양 새끼를 빼앗아다가 자기에게 온 사람을 위하여 잡았습니다 라고 말했습니다(삼하 12:1-4). 그 말을 들은 다윗은 그 부한 사람으로 말미암아 노하여 나단에게 "여호와의 살아 계심을 두고 멩세하노니 이 일을 행한 그 사람은 마땅히 죽을 자라"고 말했습니다(5절). 그 때 나단은 다윗에게 "당신이 그 사람이라 ..."고 말했습니다(7절).
저 사람들이 반역한 자들이지 설마 내가 하나님의 말씀을 거역한 자라고 전혀 생각하고 있지 않았을 것입니다. 그런데 하나님께서는 '너가 내 말을 거역했다'(민 20:24), '너가 그 사람이다'라고 말씀하고 계십니다(삼하12:7).
