The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. 하나님께서 함께 하시므로 부귀와 영광을 크게 누릴 때에 조심하고 또 조심해야 합니다. 그런데 유다 왕 여호사밧은 부귀와 영광을 크게 펼쳤을 때 이스라엘의 악한 왕 아합 가문과 혼인함으로 인척 관계를 맺었습니다(역대하 18:1)(여호사밧이 자신의 아들 여호람과 아합 왕의 딸 아달랴와 결혼을 시켜 아합왕과 동맹을 맺었음). 그 일로 인해 여호사밧 왕은 선겨자 예후에게 이렇게 책망을 받았습니다: "왕이 악한 자를 돕고 여호와를 미워하는 자들을 사랑하는 것이 옳으니이까 그러므로 여호와께로부터 진노하심이 왕에게 임하리이다"(19:2). 우리는 관계를 맺지 말아야 할 사람과 관계를 맺어서는 아니 됩니다. 우리는 악한 자를 도와서는 아니 됩니다. 우리는 하나님을 미워하는 자들을 사랑하는 것을 조심해야 합니다.
