우리의 마음이 하나님께 한결같지 않고 우리가 하나님과 맺은 언약에 충실하지 않음에도 불구하고 하나님은 긍휼하시므로 우리의 죄를 용서하시고 수없이 자신의 노여움을 억제하시고 그 노를 다 발하지 않으십니다.  그 이유는 하나님은 우리가 한번 지나가면 다시 돌아오지 못하는 바람에 불과한 존재임을 기억하시기 때문입니다(참고: 시편 78:37-39, 현대인의 성경).
