A. What Is Biblical Mission? “Biblical mission means more than simply going overseas to plant churches or spread civilization. It means the church participating in the ‘mission of God (Missio Dei)’ and seeking the restoration of God’s rule and glory throughout the whole earth. Mission is not a program that begins with human enthusiasm; rather, it is the heart of God that runs throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, and is a fundamental reason for the church’s existence. Let me clearly summarize five essential principles of true mission as presented in Scripture. 🌍 1. The Mission of God (Missio Dei) The subject and initiator of mission is not human beings but God. In order to save fallen humanity, God first comes to us, sends His Son, and sends the Holy Spirit. He is the “missionary God” who sends. 죽든지 살든지 주님만 따라가겠습니다. 다윗이 압살롬의 반역으로 인해 도망갔을 때 가드 사람 잇대에게 “… 너는 네 동족들을 데리고 돌아가거라 …” 고 말했지만 잇대는 다윗에게 “ 내가 살아 계신 여호와 앞에서 목숨을 걸고 맹세하지만 죽든지 살든지 왕이 가시는 곳이라면 어디든지 따라가겠습니다 ” 라고 대답했습니다 ( 사무엘하 15:19-21, 현대인의 성경 ). 저는 이 말씀을 묵상할 때 모압 며느리 룻이 시어머니 나오미에게 대답한 말씀이 생각났습니다 : “ 저에게 억지로 어머니 곁을 떠나라고 강요하지 마시고 어머니와 함께 가게 해 주세요 . 어머니께서 가시는 곳에 저도 가고 어머니께서 사시는 곳에 저도 살겠습니다 . 어머니의 백성이 저의 백성이 되고 어머니의 하나님이 저의 하나님이 되실 것입니다 . 어머니께서 돌아가시는 곳에서 저도 죽어 묻힐 것입니다 . 죽음이 우리를 갈라놓기 전에 만일 제가 어머니 곁을 떠나면 여호와께서 저에게 무서운 벌을 내리시기 원합니다 ”( 룻기 1:16-17, 현대인의 성경 ). 잇대나 룻의 공통점은 자기가 사랑하는 사람과 함께 가겠다고 굳게 결심하되 생명조차도 아끼지 않고 사랑하는 사람을 따라가겠다고 한 것입니다 . 우리도 사랑하는 주님을 따르겠다고 굳게 결심하되 죽든지 살든지 주님께서 가시는 곳이라며 어디든지 따라가겠습니다 라고 주님께 헌신 기도를 드릴 수 있어야 한다는 교훈을 받습니다 .
