For some of us, it’s been a while. In our hard-working, highly productive culture, we can sometimes feel like exhausted swimmers swept downstream in a fast-moving river, fighting to keep our heads above water, gasping for air. We get up early and stay up late. We never waste a minute. Our schedule is full, running here, running there, running late, running to catch up, running on empty, until we collapse in utter exhaustion. Underneath the satisfaction of being hard-working, hard-playing people is a weariness that’s desperate for the pace to relent so we can rest and recharge. 자녀 양육함에 있어서 시험과 헤어짐과 죽음과 같은 고통도 있을 수 있습니다. 그렇지만 그 와중에서도 하나님의 주권적인 뜻은 하나님의 섭리 가운데서 이루어지고 있다는 사실을 우리는 믿어야 합니다. 그리고 하나님께서는 그 뜻을 하나님의 때에 하나님의 방법으로 반드시 이루실 것이라는 사실을 우리는 믿어야 합니다. 아브라함의 하나님은 아브라함을 시험하시고자 100세 얻은 이삭을 받치라고 명하셨습니다(창22). 이삭의 하나님은 이삭과 그의 아들 야곱으로 하여금 20년 동안이나 헤어져서 떨어져 살게 하셨습니다(31:38). 야곱의 하나님은 그가 자녀들 중에 제일 사랑하는 요셉이 17살 때 죽은 줄만 알게하셨지만(17:2) 22년 후에 요셉이 39살 때 애굽의 총리가 되었다는 사실을 알게 하셨습니다(45:26). 그러신 후 하나님께서는 요셉을 통하여 야곱과 그의 자녀들과 모든 후손들을 가뭄에서 건져주셨을 뿐만 아니라 그 후손을 이 땅에 보존해 주셨습니다(5,7절). 아브라함의 하나님, 이삭의 하나님, 야곱의 하나님은 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱을 통해서 하나님의 주권적인 뜻을 하나님의 방법대로 하나님의 때에 이루어 나아가셨습니다.
