시기 사도들을 몹시 시기하여 그들을 잡아다가 감옥에 가뒀던 유대인 지도자들인 대제사장과 그와 한패인 사두개파 사람들은 결국에 가서는 예수님도 시기하여 로마 총독 빌라도에게 넘겨 십자가에 못 박혀 죽였습니다 ( 마태복음 27:18; 사도행전 5:17-18, 현대인의 성경 ). 우리는 시기하지 말아야 합니다 . 우리는 불의를 행하는 자들을 시기하지 말아야 합니다 ( 시편 37:1). 우리는 예수님을 안 믿는 세상 사람들처럼 우리 가운데 시기와 다툼이 있어서는 아니 됩니다 ( 고린도전서 3:3, 현대인의 성경 ). 시기와 다툼이 있는 곳에는 혼란과 모든 악한 일이 있습니다 ( 야고보서 3:16).
