Wisdom When Politics Threatens Church Unity

https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/politics-threatens-unity/   Wisdom When Politics Threatens Church Unity Review: ‘How Can I Love Church Members with Different Politics?’ by Jonathan Leeman and Andy Naselli AUGUST 12, 2022   |    DANIEL ANDERSON © Unsplash SHARE TWEET EMAIL The day before the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, a small book by Jonathan Leeman and Andy Naselli was released:  How Can I Love Church Members with Different Politics?  Nobody knew at the time how much we’d need it. Faint cracks in relationships between Christians have become deep chasms as we disagree over one political issue after another. There is a detail hidden in the title of this short book that’s key to its wisdom: it’s a book about loving church members. It’s not a book about bringing civility back to politics or about how Christians should engage in political vocations. Even less is it an argument for a set of political doctrines that Chr...

Wisdom is ...

Wisdom is ...  "Wisdom is  knowing the right time  and the right circumstance  to apply the right principle  to the right person."   [Tremper Longman III, "How To Read Proverbs"]

Wisdom

Wisdom "Wisdom requires reflection.   Those who are wise take the time to reflect on life's experiences.   ...   Reflection on life's experiences provides us an opportunity to see in our lives the unfailing  love of the Lord.   ...   Wisdom is the skill of seeing God's unfailing  love in all the twists and turns off our lives."   (Mark D. Futato, "The Book of Psalms")

Foolishness vs. Wisdom

Foolishness vs. Wisdom "If 'foolishness is   ...   a failure to acknowledge God in trustful obedience'   ...,   then wisdom is the sincere   acknowledgment of God in trustful obedience."   (Mark D. Futato, "The Book of Psalms")

A sluggard is far beneath than an ant.

A sluggard is far beneath than an ant.  A sluggard is far beneath than an ant.   The sluggard should go to the ant and consider its ways and be wise (Prov.6:6).   The sluggard must learn from the ant to work willingly, diligently and corporately (v.7).   The ant is thoughtful, helps each other and works according to their size.   But the sluggard is not thoughtful, do not help others and is busybody.   The sluggard must learn from the ant to prepare for the future (v.8).   The ant works very hard and diligently during the harvest season that is summer, in order to prepare food for the coming winter.   But the sluggard says “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest” (v.10). As a result, “poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man” (v.11).   But I wonder whether the sluggard will go to the ant and consider its ways and be wise since “The slugg...

Wisdom that shines in crisis

Wisdom that shines in crisis     “Go now, make more sure, and investigate and see his place where his haunt is, and who has seen him there; for I am told that he is very cunning” (1 Samuel 23:22).     When I was little, my favorite TV comic program was "Tom & Jerry".  And now my three young children (especially the youngest one in elementary school) love “Tom & Jerry”.  The reason I liked that cartoon was because it was so funny that Jerry, the rat, wins a cat called Tom who is much bigger than Jerry.  In particular, I liked the scene in which Tom used all means to capture Jerry but clever Jerry not only escape the crisis but made Tom be in that crisis.  When I think of this comic, I remember the battle of David and Goliath in the Bible.  Perhaps because David was like Jerry and Goliath was like Tom.  As we already know, David wins the battle against the Philistine Goliath.  So King ...
