The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. 피할 수 없는 것은 아닌지요?
남쪽 유다 왕 르호보암은 정예병을 소집하고 전쟁을 일으켜 북쪽 이스라엘을
장악하려고 했지만 하나님께서 스마야 선지자를 통해서 "너희는 너희 형제들과 싸우러 가지 말고 모두 집으로
돌아가거라 일이 이렇게 된 것은 내 뜻이었다"고 말씀하셔서 그 말씀에 순종하여 북쪽 이스라엘의 여로보함
왕을 치러 가지 않았습니다(역대하 11:1-4, 현대인의 성경). 하나님의 뜻은 남쪽 유다와 북쪽 이스라엘이 나뉘어지는 것이었습니다. 그 이유는 르호보암 왕의 아버지인 솔로몬 왕이 하나님께 범죄
때문이었습니다(열왕기상11:11-13). 저 이 말씀을 묵상할 때 무조건 연합하여 하나됨을 지키려고
하기보다 우리의 범죄의 결과로 둘로 나뉘어지는 것도 피할 수 없는 것 같다는 생각이 들었습니다.
