Identifying the People Involved: The person who stood beside Jesus and drew the sword was Simon Peter . The servant of the high priest was named Malchus . “Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. 피할 수 없는 것은 아닌지요? 남쪽 유다 왕 르호보암은 정예병을 소집하고 전쟁을 일으켜 북쪽 이스라엘을 장악하려고 했지만 하나님께서 스마야 선지자를 통해서 " 너희는 너희 형제들과 싸우러 가지 말고 모두 집으로 돌아가거라 일이 이렇게 된 것은 내 뜻이었다 " 고 말씀하셔서 그 말씀에 순종하여 북쪽 이스라엘의 여로보함 왕을 치러 가지 않았습니다 ( 역대하 11:1-4, 현대인의 성경 ). 하나님의 뜻은 남쪽 유다와 북쪽 이스라엘이 나뉘어지는 것이었습니다 . 그 이유는 르호보암 왕의 아버지인 솔로몬 왕이 하나님께 범죄 때문이었습니다 ( 열왕기상 11:11-13). 저 이 말씀을 묵상할 때 무조건 연합하여 하나됨을 지키려고 하기보다 우리의 범죄의 결과로 둘로 나뉘어지는 것도 피할 수 없는 것 같다는 생각이 들었습니다 .
