지혜로운 그리스도인은 성령의 검인 하나님의 말씀으로 자기 마음을 날카롭게 합니다. 도끼를 갈지 않아 날이 무디면 그만큼 힘이 더 듭니다 . 그러므로 도끼 날을 가는 것이 지혜로운 방법입니다 ( 전도서 10:10, 현대인의 성경 ). 지혜로운 그리스도인은 성령의 검인 하나님의 말씀으로 자기 마음을 날카롭게 합니다 ( 에베소서 6:17). 그러나 미련한 그리스도인은 그 일을 게을리하므로 영적 민감함이 무디어져서 선과 악을 분별하지 못해 좌로나 우로나 치우치곤 합니다 ( 참고 : 히브리서 5:14, 현대인의 성경 ).
