사람들에게 높임을 받는 것보다 ... 결혼 잔치에 초대를 받았을 때 특석에 앉으려고 하면 끝까지로 밀려나는 챙피를 당할 것입니다 . 그러므로 초대를 받았을 때 맨 끝자리에 가서 앉으십시다 . 그러면 주인이 와서 " 좀더 높은 자리에 가서 앉으십시오 " 라고 말할 것입니다 . 그렇게 되면 우리가 모든 손님들 앞에서 체면이 설 것입니다 ( 누가복음 14:7-10, 현대인의 성경 ). 우리 스스로가 좀더 높은 자리나 특석에 앉으려고 하면 주님께서는 우리를 낮추실 것입니다 . 그러나 우리 스스로가 맨 끝자리에 가서 앉으면 주님께서 주님의 때에 높이실 것입니다 (11 절 ). 사람들 앞에서 스스로 높아지려고 하지 말고 주님 안에서 겸손히 낮아지려고 힘쓰십시다 . 사람들에게 높임을 받는 것보다 주님께 높임을 받는 것이 훨씬 낫습니다 .
