신부된 교회는 "한 남편인" 신랑되신 그리스도께 드려져야 할 "정결한 처녀"가 되야 합니다(고후 11:2).  정결한 처녀인 교회는 그리스도를 향한 마음이 진실하고 깨끗해야 합니다(3절).  그러나 사탄은 우리 마음이 그리스도를 향하는 진실함과 깨끗함에서 떠나 부패하게 만들려고 미혹하고 있습니다(3절).  사탄은 우리에게 "다른 예수"를 전파하며, "다른 영"과 "다른 복음"을 받게 하려고 애쓰고 있습니다(4절).
