우리는 하나님 아버지의 사랑을 받아 하나님의 자녀가 되었습니다(요일 3:1-2).  그러므로 우리는 하나님의 자녀로서 주님의 계명대로 서로 사랑해야 합니다(11, 23, 24).  서로 사랑하되 우리는 육체로 오신(요이1:7) 영원한 생명의 말씀이신(요일 1:1, 2) 예수 그리스도께서 우리의 죄를 위하여 화목제물로(2:2) 자신의 목숨을 십자가에 버리신 것처럼 우리도 목숨을 버리기까지 서로 사랑해야 합니다(3:16).
