하나님께서 교만한 지도자의 세력을 꺽어 주시길 기원합니다. 여호사밧 왕을 이어 유다 왕이 된 그의 장남 여호람은 왕위에 올라 세력을 굳히자 자기 동생들 여섯 명을 모두 죽이고 또 몇몇 이스라엘 지도자들도 죽였습니다 . 그리고 그는 아합의 딸과 결혼하여 이스라엘 왕들을 본받아 아합의 집안 사람들처럼 악을 행하고 하나님께 범죄했습니다 ( 역대하 21:1-6, 현대인의 성경 ). 솔로몬 왕을 이어서 왕이 된 르호보암도 왕으로서의 위치가 확고해지고 세력이 강해지자 하나님을 버렸으며 백성들도 그를 본받아 하나님의 법에 따르지 않았습니다 (12:1, 현대인의 성경 ). 웃시야 왕도 자기 세력이 막강해지자 마음이 교만해져서 패망길에 들어서고 말았습니다 (26:16, 현대인의 성경 ). 한 나라의 지도자가 세력을 굳히게 되면 하나님께 범죄할 위험이 참 많습니다 . 그런데 교회 안에서도 그런 일이 벌어지고 있습니다 . 하나님께서 악하고 잔인한 지도자의 세력을 꺾어 그가 자랑스럽게 생각하던 힘을 없애 버리시고 그의 희생자들을 구출해 내주시길 기원합니다 ( 욥기 29:17; 에스겔 30:18, 현대인의 성경 ).
