"요나답", "다윗의 형 시므아의 아들", 이 사람은 "심히 간교한 자"였습니다(삼하13:3). 그는 "다윗의 다른 아들 "암논"(1절)의 친구로서(3절) 암논이 "다윗의 아들 압살롬"의 "아름다운 누이" "다말"을 사랑하되(1절) 그녀가 "처녀이므로 어찌할 수 없는 줄을 알고" 그녀로 인해 "울화로 말미암아 병이"된 것을 알고(2절) 암논에게 간교한 조언을 하므로(5절) 결국 암논으로 하여금 "어리석은 일을 행하"게 하여(12절) "억지로" 다말과 동침했습니다(14절). 그리했던 요나답은 "만 이 년 후에"(23절) 다말의 오라보니 압살롬이 계획을 세워 암논만 죽였는데 다윗 "왕의 모든 아들들을 죽이고 하나도 남기지 아니하였다는 소문이 다윗에게 이르"렀을 때(30절) 다윗 왕에게 이렇게 말했습니다: "내 주여 젋은 왕자들이 다 죽임을 당한 줄로 생각하지 마옵소서 오직 암논만 죽었으리이다 그가 압살롬의 누이 다말을 욕되게 한 날부터 압살롬이 결심한 것이니이다"(32절). 결국 심히 간교한 요나답으로 인해 암논은 다말을 억지도 동침하였고 그 일로 다말의 오라버니 압살롬은 암논을 죽이는 간음죄와 살인죄가 다윗의 집안에 일어났습니다. 이것은 이미 아버지 다윗이 유부녀 밧세바와 동침하고 그 죄를 덮으려고 밧세바의 남편 우리아를 죽인 살인죄를 그의 두 아들인 암논과 압살롬이 범하게 된 것입니다. 그런데 다윗 왕의 옆에는 아직도 심히 간교한 요나답이 있었습니다(32절).
