예수님의 제자들은 예수님께서 “내가 사람들의 손에 넘어가 죽임을 당하고
3일 만에 다시 살아날 것이다”하고 말씀하시지 큰 슬픔에 잠겼습니다(마태복음
17:22-23, 현대인의 성경). 그들이 큰 슬픔에 잠긴 이유는 그들은 믿음으로 하나님의 일을 생각하지 않고 불신 속에서 사람의 일을 생각하고 있었기 때문입니다(참고: 마가복음 8:33,
현대인의 성경). 그리고 그들은 불신 속에서 사람의 일을 생각하면서 예수님의 부활하심보다 예수님의 죽으심에 초점을 맞춰져 있었기에 큰 슬픔에 잠겼던 것이라 생각합니다. 만일 우리가 그들처럼 사랑하는 사람들의 죽음을 바라보면 우리는 소망 없는 불신자들처럼 슬퍼할 것입니다. 그러나 만일 우리가 예수님이 죽었다가 다시 살아나신 것을 믿으면 우리는 예수님을 믿다가 죽은 사랑하는 사람들도 하나님이 예수님과 함께 데리고 오실 것을 믿을 것입니다. 우리는 주님이 재림하실 때 그리스도를 믿다가 죽은 사랑하는 사람들이 먼저 부활할 것을 믿을 것입니다. 그 후에 우리 살아남은 사람들도 그들과 함께 구름 속으로 끌려 올라가 공중에서 주님을 만나 영원이 주님과 함께 있게 될 줄 믿을 것입니다(참고: 데살로니가전서
