지금 우리 예수님을 믿는 부모님들이 자녀에게 남기고자 하는 신앙의 유산은 순수한 하나님만을 경외하는 신앙이 아닐 수 있습니다. 마치 이스라엘 백성들이 하나님을 경외한다고 하면서 다른 민족의 풍속 대로 그들의 신들도 경외하며 섬기며 예배하며 제사한 것처럼 지금 우리도 하나님을 경외한다고 말하면서 이 세상에 풍속 대로 돈을 경외하며 섬기며 예배하며 우상화하고 있습니다. 이것은 하나님 보시기에 진정으로 하나님을 경외하는 것이 아닙니다. 그 이유는 하나님 보시기에 지금 우리는 하나님의 계명을 준행하지 않고 있기 때문입니다. 하나님께서 우리에게 명하시는 것은 "오직 너희 하나님 여호와 말을 경외하라"와 '하나님께서 우리를 위하여 기록한 하나님의 말씀과 계명을 지켜 영원히 행하고 다른 신들을 경외하지 말라는 것입니다'(왕하 17:27-41).
