지금 이 세상은 "진실이 아닌 거짓이 판을" 치고 있습니다. 지금 우리 사람들은 "활을 당기듯이 혀를 놀려 거짓말을 쏘아대"고 있습니다(렘9:3, 현대인의 성경). 지금 우리는 "악에서 악으로 진행하"고 있으며 또 주님을 알지 못하고 있습니다(3절). 지금 우리는 "속이는 일로 말미암아" 주님을 알기를 싫어하고 있습니다(6절). 그러므로 우리는 이웃을 조심하고 어떤 형제/자매든지 믿지 말아야 합니다. 그 이유는 그들은 우리를 속이고 진실을 말하지 않으며 그들의 혀로 거짓말하기를 가르치며 악을 행하는 데 지칠 줄 모르기 때문입니다(4-5절).
