하나님께서 우리를 우리 아내와 한 몸이 되게 하셨습니다. 이렇게 하신 목적은 하나님께서 경건한 자녀를 얻고자 하시기 때문입니다. 그러므로 우리는 우리의 마음을 지켜 젊어서 얻은 우리 아내를 배신하지 말아야 합니다. 우리는 우리 아내에게 결혼 서약을 한 대로 신실해야 하며 또한 우리아내에게 신의를 지켜야 합니다. 하나님의 말씀입니다: "나는 이혼 자체를 미워하며 자기 아내에게 그런 끔찍할 짓을 하는 자를 미워한다. 그러므로 너희는 너희 마음을 지켜 너희 아내에게 신의를 저버리지 말아라"(말라기 2:14-16, 현대인의 성경).
