The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. 하나님께서는 아이 성을 점령함에 있어서 여호수아에게 "보라 내가 아이 왕과 그의 백성과 그의 성읍과 그의 땅을 다 네 손에 넘겨 주었"다(수8:1), "내가 이 성읍을 네 손에 넘겨 주리라"(18절)고 말씀하셨고 여호수아는 그의 용사들에게 "너희 하나님 여호와께서 그 성읍을 너희 손에 주시리라"(7절)고 말했습니다.
우리는 영적 전쟁에 있어서 여호수아처럼 하나님의 약속의 말씀을 그대로 믿어야 합니다. 승리의 확신 성경구절입니다: "여러분이 당한 시험은 모든 사람들이 다 당하는 시험입니다. 하나님은 신실하신 분이시므로 여러분이 감당할 수 없는 시험당하는 것을 허락하지 않으시고 여러분이 시험을 당할 때에 피할 길을 마련해 주셔서 감당할 수 있게 하실 것입니다"(고전 10:13, 현대인의 성경).
