우상 숭배나 간음이나 주님을 시험하는 것이나 원망하는 악을 즐겨하는 것은 하나님이 기뻐하지 아니하시므로 이스라엘 백성들은 광야에서 멸망을 받았습니다.  그들에게 일어난 이런 일은 우리의 본보기가 되고 또한 말세를 만난 우리에게 하나의 경고로서 기록되었습니다(고린도전서 10:5-11, 현대인의 성경).
