광야는 결코 “나쁜 곳”이 아닙니다 . 원망하는 이스라엘 백성들에게는 광야는 “나쁜 곳”이었습니다 ( 민 20:5). 그 이유는 광야에는 그들이 원했던 “파종할 곳이 없고 무화과도 없고 포도도 없고 석류도 없고 마실 물도 없”었기 때문이었습니다 (5 절 ) 그 이유는 그들의 마음은 하나님께서 하늘에서 내려주셨던 만나를 “이 하잖은 음식”으로 여겼고 또한 그 “하잖은 음식을 싫어”했기 때문이었습니다 (21:5). 그러나 감사하는 우리 그리스도인들에게는 “광야”는 매우 ‘좋은 곳’이요 ‘필요한 곳’입니다 . 그 이유는 예수님께서 “한적한 곳”에서 하나님 아버지께 기도하신 것처럼 ( 막 1:35) 우리는 외로운 “광야”를 “고독의 동산”으로 만들어 ( 헨리 나우웬 ) 주님과 친밀한 교제를 나눌 수 있기 때문입니다 . 그 이유는 우리의 마음은 하나님께서 “하늘로부터 참 떡”이시요 ( 요 6:32) “세상의 생명을 주는” (33 절 ) “생명의 떡”이신 예수님 (35 절 ) 을 사랑하기 때문입니다 .
