Chapter 9: Emptying “Evil Thoughts” In the previous chapter, we examined how we must empty the hatred that has taken root in our hearts and fill that place with the love and forgiveness of Christ. Now we want to go one step deeper. We want to look at the “thoughts” within our hearts—the thoughts that arise before our words and actions begin, thoughts that may not be readily visible to other people but that God sees. We have countless thoughts every day. From the moment we open our eyes in the morning until we go to bed at night, thoughts of judging and comparing others, feelings of hurt and hatred, greed and anxiety, pride and envy, and the desire to be recognized continually pass through our hearts.
