우리가 보기에 안전한 곳이 하나님 보시기에는 안전한 곳이 아닐 수 있습니다. 천사들은 롯에게 " 산으로 도망하라 " 고 말씀했는데 롯은 도중에 재앙을 만나 죽을까봐 산까지 달아날 수가 없으니 도망하기 가까운 작은 성 ( 소알 ) 로 도망가게 해 주시길 부탁드렸습니다 . 롯이 천사들에게 그리 말한 이유는 천사들이 볼 때에는 산이 안전한게 , 롯이 볼 때에는 그 작은 성 ( 소알 ) 이 안전할 것이라 생각했기 때문입니다 . 그리했을 때 천사들은 롯의 요구대로 그 작은 성 ( 소알 ) 을 멸망시키지 않고 롯으로 하여금 가족과 함께 소알로 도망할 때까지 소돔과 고모라를 멸망시키지 않으셨습니다 ( 창세기 19:17-22, 현대인의 성경 ). 재앙을 만나 죽을까봐 하는 두려움은 우리가 보기에 안전한 곳을 찾게 만듭니다 . 그런데 그 안전한 곳이 하나님 보시기에는 안전한 곳이 아닐 수 있습니다 .
