Personally, I believe we should see them as signs of the message that must precede the Lord's coming, as indicated in Luke 21:25 - "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves." Reading the phrase "the roaring of the sea and the waves," we realize that it points to God, who moves in nature and the universe, working before the return of Jesus.
