The Inseparable Love of God (1) [ Romans 8:38-39 ] Why can nothing separate us from the love of God? 1. Because God’s love is eternal. Romans 8:29a says: “For those whom He foreknew…” The word “foreknew” refers to before eternity began —before the creation of heaven and earth . The phrase “those whom He foreknew” does not simply mean knowing about someone intellectually, but rather loving them. In other words, it refers to “those whom God loved from eternity past.” Amos 3:2a says: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth.” If “known” merely meant intellectual knowledge, that would imply that God only knew Israel and did not know the other nations—which cannot be true, because the all-knowing God lacks knowledge of nothing. Therefore, “I have known you only” means “I have loved you only.” God loved Israel among all the nations of the earth. (2) ‘찾다’ ( 골 3:1) 라는 원어 헬라어의 의미는 “추구하다 , 노력하다 , 시도하다”로서 무엇인가를 얻고자 간절함과 근심의 생각으로 노력하고 추구함을 의미합니다 ( 주석 ). 바울은 “위의 것을 생각하고 땅의 것을 생각 하지 말라” (2 절 ) 고 말씀했습니다 . 우리가 위의 것을 계속해서 찾기 위해선 먼저 땅의 것을 생각하지 말아 야 합니다 . 여기서 우리가 생각하지 말고 찾지 말아야 할 “땅의 것”은 “ 곧 음란과 부정과 사욕과 악한 정욕과 우상숭배인 탐심 입니다 . 그러므로 우리는 땅에 있는 육체의 욕망을 죽 여야 합니다 . 음란과 더러운 짓과 정욕과 악한 욕망과 지나친 욕심입니다 (5 절 ). 성경은 이러한 우리 육체에 남아 있는 죄를 의식적인 노력으로 죽이라고 권면하고 있습니다 ( 맥아더 ). 우리 성도들은 전에는 죄와 할례받지 못한 육적인 욕망 때문에 영적으로 죽어 있었으나 육적인 죄의 몸을 버리는 그리스도의 할례를 받으므로 하나님께서 그들을 그리스도와 함께 살리셨습니다 . 우리는 이미 그리스도와 함께 옛 사람은 죽었기에 거듭난 ( 중생한 ) 새 사람으로서 이 땅의 것을 생각하지 말고 위의 것을 생각하고 찾아야 합니다 .
