Devotional Reflection Based on the Incident of Peter Cutting Off Malchus's Ear: “Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.” ( Mark 14:47, Today's Korean Version ) 1. Identifying the People Involved: The person who stood beside Jesus and drew the sword was Simon Peter . The servant of the high priest was named Malchus . “Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.” ( John 18:10 ) 2. Jesus' Response to Peter's Action: (a) Jesus said: “Permit even this.” ( Luke 22:51, KJV: “Suffer ye thus far”; RSV: “No more of this” ) The Greek words clarify this: “ἕως τούτου” (“heōs toutou”) = “up to this point” or “even this” “ἐᾶτε” (“eate”) = “allow it,” “let it be,” “leave it alone” Therefore, Jesus is essentially saying: “Let them do what they are doing. 왜 하나님께서는 이렇게 인도하시는 것일까요? 하나님의 말씀을 따라  갈 바를 알지 못하고 나아갔을 때  도착한 곳은 가나안 땅 ,  그런데 그 가나안 땅에는 기근이 심했습니다 ( 창 12:4-5, 10, 히 11:8).   왜 하나님께서는 기근이 심한 가나안 땅으로 인도하신 것일까요 ?   풍부한 땅으로 인도해 주시면 안되시는 것일까요 ?   하나님의 말씀을 따라 나아가는 그리스도인은  믿음으로 하나님의 인도하심에 순종하지  우리의 생각과 기대한대로  풍부한 땅만을 고집하지 않습니다 .
