Richard / 2021-03-10 Photo by Yoel Peterson on Unsplash “ 죄인들이 살아가는 세상 속에서 죄의 영향을 받으며 살아가는 크리스천의 삶은 ‘이미’와 ‘그러나 아직’ 사이의 긴장감 속에 있다 ” Share this story 하나님이 자신의 백성들을 위해 선택한 이름들 가운데 흥미로운 사실 하나가 있다. 하나님은 ‘이스라엘’이라는 이름을 택하셨다. 이스라엘이라는 이름이 실제로 의미하는 바가 무엇인지에 대해서 여러 의견들이 있지만, 창세기 32장에서 이 이름이 주어진 정황은 다른 모든 가능성들 중에서 “그가 하나님과 씨름한다”는 의미를 뒷받침하는 것으로 보인다(창 32:22–32; 호 12:3–4). 하나님이 무한하신 지혜 가운데 자신의 백성들 즉, ‘씨름하는 자들’을 부르기로 선택하신 듯하다. 우리가 크리스천으로서 시간들 사이에 살아간다는 의미가 무엇인지를 고려해 본다면, 하나님의 진정한 이스라엘로서(롬 2:28–29; 4:11–12; 갈 6:12–16) 크리스천은 원래 야곱에게 주어진 이름의 의미처럼 상속자이며 바로 ‘씨름하는 자들’이다. 그리고 그것이 시간들 사이를 산다는 것의 진정한 의미가 아니겠는가? ‘이미 그러나 아직’이라는 관점에서 크리스천의 삶을 이보다 더 잘 설명할 수 있겠는가? 야곱처럼 우리는 크리스천으로서 씨름하는 자들이 되어야 한다. 하나님과 그리고 사람과 씨름해야 하며 극복해야한다(호 12:2–6). 하지만 하나님과 씨름한다는 의미는 무엇일까? 첫째로, 우리가 하나님의 섭리와 씨름한다는 것을 의미한다. 죄로 물든 세상, 즉 죄인들이 살아가는 세상 속에서 죄의 영향을 받으며 살아가는 크리스천의 삶은 ‘이미’와 ‘그러나 아직’ 사이의 긴장감 속에 있다. 죄로 인한 아픔, 질병, 기근 그리고 자연재해 등은 ‘아직’ 새롭게 되지 않은 세상을 살아가는 모든 결과들...
